Proceedings After Filing Chapter 13

After the petition and plan are filed you must attend, approximately one month later, a trustee's meeting at which time the Chapter 13 trustee will review with us your petition and plan verifying the information provided, and make sure you understand the Chapter 13 rules and process.

30 days after the petition is filed, you are required to make your first monthly plan payment through the office of the Chapter 13 Trustee in Des Moines, Iowa. He or she then distributes those funds each month over the course of the plan to your creditors pro-rata (each creditor gets a portion of the payment, higher or lower, depending on the amount of their particular debt).

Once the plan payments are completed, the court will enter a Discharge Order which will discharge and get rid of any debts or any portion of debts that have not been paid.
