Preparing to File a Chapter 7

Gathering Relevant Information

Beginning a Chapter 7  in Iowa requires the preparation, and filing of a bankruptcy petition and schedules in federal bankruptcy court in Des Moines, Iowa. The petition requires that you set forth honestly and completely all information related to assets owned, income, living expenses, creditors, assets sold or transferred in the recent past and other information.

Proof of Income

You are required to provide six (6) months of paycheck stubs and at least your most recent tax return as well as any other information your attorney or the bankruptcy trustee may ask for including bank statements. The most important point is to be completely honest and truthful with to your attorney and to the court regarding any information requested. Your attorney cannot properly advise you and cannot properly and efficiently represent you unless you are wholly truthful with him or her.
